Ruth Davidson slams Nicola Sturgeon for using Brexit deal to invoke new independence referendum
Scottish Tory leader Davidson welcomed the deal and told Sturgeon to 'give it a rest'
RUTH Davidson launched a blistering attack on Nicola Sturgeon yesterday after she used news of the breakthrough to raise the spectre of Scottish independence AGAIN.
The Scots Tory chief demanded Scotland’s First Minister “give it a rest” after the SNP boss insisted the agreement reached on the Irish border had implications for an independent Scotland.
Ms Sturgeon had welcomed news of Theresa May’s last minute breakthrough.
But she then took to Twitter with an “aside” on the thorny issue of independence.
She said the deal meant a British Government could “never again tell Scotland that independence would mean a hard border between Scotland and the UK”.
But she faced an immediate backlash as Ruth Davidson raged at her to “give it a rest”.
Ms Davidson fumed: “And here we go.
“Right on time Nicola Sturgeon uses any Brexit development to bang the indy drum. Could set your watch by it.”
Ms Sturgeon hit back: “Democracy, Tory style - shut up and let us inflict whatever damage on Scotland we want.”
Asked what she’d do differently to Theresa May, Ms Sturgeon replied: “Not leave the EU”.
In a separate statement yesterday Ms Davidson welcomed the PM’s breakthrough as a “real step forward that ensured the integrity of the UK.”
