Donald Trump to make working visit to the UK in February despite public spat with Theresa May over tweets
US president will make two day visit at the same time the new US embassy will open in London but won't meet the Queen.
DONALD Trump is expected to visit Britain in February despite a public spat with Theresa May over his Twitter account.
An invitation to visit London had been offered to the US president shortly after he took office in January but a date has yet to be set.
The invitation remains open but doubt was cast over whether he would come at all after the prime minister criticised him for retweeting three videos from far-right group Britain First.
The working visit has been pencilled in for February 26-27, according to sources who spoke to .
They say that the date had been in the diary for at least 10 days and coincides with the opening of the new US embassy in London.
A full state visit and meeting with the Queen is not expected in a bid to avoid any mass protests.
It had been thought the president would pull out of the engagement after Mrs May said he was "wrong" to retweet the far-right group.
Writing on social media, Mr Trump said she should focus on fighting Islamic terrorism rather than his tweets.
Britain First is understood to have had less than 1,000 paid up members but claim they have had hundreds of new applications following the property mogul's retweets.
President Trump has over 44 million followers and was criticised by Labour and Conservative politicians for giving the extremist group a platform.
The news of the February visit comes as Mr Trump won the first major legislative victory of his administration.
Yesterday the Republicans passed a bill giving tax cuts to the wealthy and big businesses worth $1.5 trillion (£1.1 billion) over 10 years.
However, there was also some bad news for the president after his former national security adviser admitted he lied to the FBI.
Former army officer Michael Flynn, a key early supporter of Trump, will also now cooperate with the investigation into the president's links with Russia.
