London Mayor Sadiq Khan backs our campaign to give George Cross medal to hero police officers

LONDON Mayor Sadiq Khan is backing our campaign to give hero cops Wayne Marques and Charlie Guenigault the George Cross for taking on the Borough Market terrorists.

The brave bobbies are credited with saving many lives during the June 3 atrocity at London Bridge in which eight were killed.

Wayne, 38, charged at the knife-wielding gang with only his baton while Charlie, 25, who was off duty, took them on with his fists.

Both were stabbed multiple times and were among 48 injured.

So far more than 2,000 readers have signed The Sun on Sunday’s petition to give them the highest civilian gallantry award — and you can back it too.

Mr Khan said: “Their heroic actions undoubtedly saved the lives of many innocent people.

“I’m proud to endorse The Sun on Sunday’s campaign for them to be awarded the George Cross. I cannot think of any two living people more worthy.”

Traders at London Bridge and Borough Market are proudly displaying our posters.

Allyson Munoro, 25, who works at Wyndhams House butchers, said: “It would be an outrage if they didn’t get the George Cross.”

Monika Kukawka, 37, manager at the Black & Blue restaurant which the three extremists forced their way into, said: “Those officers saved so many. I’m 100 per cent behind the campaign.”
