Uber finally admits that 2.7million of its UK users were hit by hackers

Hackers were able to obtain the names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers of passengers and drivers, the taxi-hailing firm said

UBER has finally admitted that 2.7million of its UK users were hit by hackers.

The taxi app firm initially kept quiet about the 2016 breach, then when it emerged this month did not say how many drivers and passengers were hit.

It had already paid the hackers £75,000 to delete the names, phone numbers and email addresses stolen from a server.

Investigators have found no signs that financial details, journey histories or dates of birth were downloaded, Uber said.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “Uber need to urgently confirm which customers are affected.”
