THIS is the terrifying moment a German military transport narrowly avoided a devastating crash as it battled through heavy winds at Cologne airport - just minutes before a passenger flight nearly skidded off the runway.
Hair-raising footage shows Luftwaffe-marked Airbus A310 swooping down towards the runway at speed as the pilot struggles to keep it level.
As the wheels hit tarmac a huge gust of wind threatens to smash the left engine into the runway forcing the pilot to frantically slam the right hand wheels onto solid ground.
Stunned onlookers watched the giant plane taxi safely to the terminal - shortly before a Eurowings flight nearly skidded off the runway when attempting the same manoeuvre.
The white Boeing 747 has a smoother descent, but swung violently leftward on touchdown after being blasted by a huge crosswind.
But the gale slowed enough for the panic-stricken crew to regain control just in time, safely reaching the terminal without further incident.
Both planes were forced to attempt risky landings because Cologne's specially-designed crosswind runway was closed for maintenance.
