Bizarre moment prisoners eat live cockroaches in their own I’m A Celebrity Bushtucker trial behind bars
THIS is the bizarre moment a prisoner is filmed eating cockroaches in a jail cell version of a Bushtucker Trial.
The inmate appears to pluck cockroaches collected on a plastic tray before stuffing the creatures in his mouth like stars in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.
The vomit-inducing footage shows the offender dared to scoff the insects by fellow lags shouting: “Eat that! Eat that!”
He then shouts: "I’m A Celeb HMP! I’m A Celebrity, get me out of HMP Birmingham!”
The unnamed prisoner crunches the creepy crawlies in his mouth and swallows them
The video is thought to have been filmed on September 30 in a cell at HMP Birmingham, which is run by private security firm G4S.
One inmate who recently got out of the prison saw the film on a fellow prisoner's Instagram account and said he was disgusted by the ability of prisoners to get mobile phones while doing time.
He said: “I just want to show how easy it is for prisoners to have phones. I have seen prisoners in there with iPads and stuff.
“When you have social time it’s easy to use your phone. It’s not good enough. This video just proves how much of a joke it is to say most prisoners can’t get phones.”
Last September, the jail was destroyed by a 12-hour riot which cost £6m in resources and repairs to clear up.
It is understood the prisoner in the video has now been transferred to another prison.
Deputy director for HM Prison Birmingham, Andy Sleight, said: “Not only is it a criminal offence to be in possession of a mobile phone inside a prison, but they also pose a serious risk to the safety and stability of a prison’s regime.
“We have introduced a series of measures to detect mobile phones at Birmingham and work closely with West Midlands Police to ensure that those who break the law are prosecuted.”
