Pro-EU Tory MP gets sent bizarre doctored card calling him ‘Judas’ and a ‘traitor’ while wishing him a ‘Brexit Christmas’
Scottish politician Paul Masterton jokingly tweeted: 'I feel bad for the trees who died in vain to make this card'
A TORY MP has laughed off a bizarre Christmas card he was sent which called him a "Judas" and a "traitor".
Paul Masterton shared the hilarious snap of the inside of a card, which told him to have a "Brexit Christmas".
It read: "17.5 million. 52% voted leave. Pack your suitcase. Leave the UK. And don't return ever. You: traitor."
The cunning scribe, who wrote only in capital letters, headed the card "To Judas".
And they crossed out "Happy" in the pre-printed greeting, replacing it to read: "Brexit Christmas".
The MP was one of a number of Tories who were deemed "mutineers" last week by voting for amendments to the EU Withdrawal Bill which is currently going through Parliament.
Mr Masterton, whose constituency voted Remain in the referendum, had defended his decision to try and amend the Bill to his constituents - by removing the date that we would definitely leave the EU.
He said: "This is not a question of if we leave the EU, or even when, those things are settled. It is a question of how."
Mrs May faces a rebellion from her Tory backbenchers over her plans to try and enshrine the date in law - they say it would tie our hands in Brexit talks.
"The Government wants to get the best possible deal for the country, and this amendment severely binds its hands in an unhelpful way."
Today the MP, who represents East Renfrewshire for the Tories, tried to joke about the ordeal.
He tweeted: "I feel bad for the trees who died in vain to make this card".
And he even got a response from former Lib Dem leader Tim Farron, who said he had also received a similar card too.
"Amen brother," he replied with a pic of his own, which read "Get over yourselves!".
And Tory MP Johnny Mercer joked that it was him who had sent it.
"Hope you like it," he said. "Took me ages to learn how to spell all that..."
The pair joked it was because Mr Masterton had made fun of Mr Mercer's moustache.
