Notorious Brit gangsters and Kray twins’ rivals photographed in smoky drink dens, designer suits and shadow boxing
Photographer Brian Anderson spent ten years photographing the villains for his new book
THESE incredible black and white photos show some of Britain’s most notorious gangsters in smoky drink dens, designer suits, gold jewellery and shadow boxing.
The Richardson Gang and associates of the Kray twins are seen as you’ve never seen them before in a series of candid snaps taken by crime photojournalist Brian Anderson.
The Richardson Gang were known for torturing their victims with whippings or electrocutions.
He spent ten years rounding up the villains and convincing them to pose for his book Long Shot & Two Smoking Cameras.
And as you’d expect, this was not an easy task.
He remembered a hairy moment when he met Roy ‘Pretty Boy Row’ Shaw, an associate of Ronnie and Reggie Kray who had a habit of stabbing informants.
“I remember Roy picking me up in a Rolls-Royce, suited and booted,” Brian told the.
“The roller broke down after five minutes. I had to get out the car and push the bloody thing. A bus trying to get through couldn’t. Sure enough, the bus driver starts banging his horn and shouting for us to move.
“Roy was getting annoyed and snapped. One stare from Roy was enough. The guy just waited until we were finished. It all ended well and everyone lived to tell the tale.”
