DEAD ALREADY

Mum-of-four ‘called 999 night before her husband stabbed her to death but cops did not follow-up the call until three days later when she was already dead’

The sick killer sent fake frantic messages and panicked calls to Sinead Wooding's phone in a bid to cover his tracks

A MUM-of-four called police the night before her husband stabbed her to death but cops did not follow-up the call until three days later when she was already dead, a court heard.

Sinead Wooding dialled 999 on Wednesday 10 May but officers didn't visit her home until it was too late.

By the time police knocked the door of her home, husband Akshar Ali, 27, who is charged along with Yasmin Ahmed of murdering Sinead, her body had allegedly been dumped in woodland and set alight.

Sinead's badly disfigured body was found on May 14, Leeds Crown Court heard.

The pair are alleged to have murdered her at Ahmed's home following a drunken argument at a house party.

Ali and Ahmed are alleged to have hidden her body in Ali's cellar for two days before wrapping it in a carpet and driving it in a red Golf to secluded woodland to the North of the city and setting it on fire in the early hours of May 14.

She had six stab wounds to the chest and upper body and there was evidence of 12 blows to her head.

A Home Office pathologist concluded several skull fractures were caused by at least one claw hammer.

Prosecutor Nicholas Campbell QC told Leeds Crown Court:  "At 11.30am on Saturday morning (of May 13) the officer expected to speak to Sinead Wooding but found Akshar Ali at the address with Sinead's older children.

"He told the officer the other children were being looked after by his mother because Sinead Wooding hadn't come home.

"He told the officer that this happened frequently when she was drinking.

"The officer asked questions about the night the call was made and asked questions to the children.

"He spoke to his superiors and advised Akshar Ali that he should contact the police if she didn't come home within 24 hours."

He added that Ali and Ahmed sent frantic messages and panicked calls to Sinead's phone, and to her family and friends, in a bid to cover their tracks after the police visit.

At 5.15am on the Sunday morning Ahmed sent a text message to Sinead's phone, which read: "Hey babes where are you? IT's not funny now. Please call me or Ali. We're all starting to get worried. Kids keep asking for you. Please come home or at least get in touch xxx."

Ali, of Leeds, and Ahmed both deny murder.

Ali's 45-year-old mother Aktahr Bi denies assisting an offender by making arrangements to dispose of Sinead Wooding's corpse.

Ali's 21-year-old brother Asim Ali denies assisting an offender by procuring a vehicle and assisting in the disposal and burning of her body.

Yasmin Ahmed's friend Vicky Briggs, 25, denies assisting an offender by helping clean up and burn material after the murder.

The trial continues.
