Love rat Walter Mitty had 30 bitties on side

UK's biggest liar and cheat

A MARRIED cheat who posed as an FBI agent to bed up to 30 women was declared
Britain’s biggest love rat last night after his ex-wife exposed his lies.

Conman John Williams, 36, won the sympathy of his conquests by telling them he
was orphaned as a boy — and his wife and baby had later died during
childbirth.

He wooed them with a Walter Mitty-style web of lies.

Faking an American accent, he claimed he used to be an FBI agent in New York
before moving to the UK to work as a prisons expert for the Home Office.

In reality, jobless former jailbird Williams was a con artist living with his
pregnant wife Liz.

Liz, 40, who divorced Williams in December after four years of marriage, last
night shared her story of betrayal to stop other women falling for his lies.

The NHS worker told The Sun: “The police told me they discovered the names
and numbers of between 20 and 30 women in his phone. Women need to be aware
of who John Williams really is.

“He’s a very, very dangerous man and a fantastic actor. He destroyed my life.”

Liz was shocked to learn Williams had been jailed in 2006 for harassing his
former girlfriend, events co-ordinator Nicole Eaton, 36. He was also found
guilty of publishing obscene material and perverting the course of justice.

He is now behind bars again for fraud and assault.

Among his conquests while he was married to Liz were a bank manager and a
woman called Kelly he had met on Facebook.

Williams assaulted Liz last January after she found him in bed with nurse
Lindsay Vint, who he had met on dating website plentyoffish.com and had
proposed to.

Another conquest was analyst Louise Kay, 30, who only found out about
Williams’ tricks when she reported him missing after he didn’t come “home”
in August last year. Cops rang back to say he had been jailed the day before
— and was married with children.

Single mum Liz had a whirlwind romance with Williams after meeting him through
the dating website match.com in Liverpool in 2008.

They married eight months later after Williams had told Liz of his FBI
background — though he had no idea of how to get around New York when they
went to America on honeymoon.

Within days, he was taking trips away for “work” or “family” reasons.

In March 2010, Liz gave birth to Williams’ daughter — but just a few weeks
later the police called at her home for the first time to investigate an
allegation of fraud.

Liz said: “I was shocked. I am a law-abiding person. I couldn’t understand why
they were pulling out birth and wedding certificates. Eventually one of the
police told me he had been claiming benefits as a single person. He said it
was all a mistake.”

Liz’s car was sold by Williams who promised to replace it with a new one, but
fobbed her off with lies about a problem at the dealership. Then a house
move fell through and Williams booked a holiday to Florida.

But Liz’s world came crashing down in August 2012 when the family arrived at
Manchester Airport. Williams was arrested and led away as he tried to print
his boarding pass. Cops broke the news to Liz — then seven weeks pregnant
with her son — that her husband was a serial conman.

It transpired that Williams had angrily phoned the airport claiming his wife
was suffering from terminal CANCER and that she had collapsed after
being abused by telephone operators.

He lied that Liz had overheard call-handlers saying, “What is it with these
dying people wanting to see Mickey Mouse?”

He was offered the £7,000 holiday as compensation for the distress but it was
later cancelled when the travel firm investigated.

Liz said: “That moment at the airport was when all the doubts and questions
suddenly became real. The penny dropped and I realised just how bad he was.”

Williams was released on police bail — and bombarded Liz with calls and text
messages begging her to take him back, though he had left her with £21,000
debts. She said he could stay until he found somewhere else to live.

But worse was to come for Liz when she drove past her home in January last
year and saw a strange car on the drive.

She went in and found Williams in bed with Lindsay Vint.

Liz said: “I told her I was John’s wife and flashed my baby bump saying: “This
is our child and we also have a daughter’. She just said ‘I had no idea’ and
picked up her stuff to leave. John went berserk. He hit my head against the
wall, climbed on me and pinned me to the floor.”

Williams was jailed for two years for fraud in August last year for the
airport scam. This week he was handed a four-month prison term — to run
concurrently — after being found guilty of assaulting Liz.

She said: “People will think I’ve been too trusting and haven’t asked enough
questions throughout the relationship, but John was the best liar I have
ever met. He had an explanation for everything.”

Fellow victim Louise said: “He claimed he married an English girl and they
were expecting a baby but both she and the baby died during childbirth. I
would say to other women — don’t be fooled by John’s generosity, charm and
romantic gestures. He’s a conman who ruins people’s lives.”

- On 21 February 2014, Mr Williams's conviction for assault was overturned at Liverpool Crown Court.
