TWO members of a would-be press watchdog spread smears against BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg.
Maire Messenger Davies and Emma Jones of the independent media regulator Impress re-tweeted messages mocking the journalist, who has been trolled on social media.
Ulster University media studies professor Davies and Jones shared the post after Kuenssberg was made journalist of the year last December.
It read: "Oh. So THAT's what journalism means? #Propaganda."
Impress is set to rule on whether leftie website Canary breached its ethics with a fake story that Kuenssberg was to speak at the Tory conference.
The UK Press Gazette said Davies and Jones had been stood down from handling the case, while Impress said it had "well-known procedures that allow directors who have commented upon a topic, or who have an interest, to recuse themselves from decisions".
Impress, which became an official regulator after receiving a Royal Charter in 2013, is backed by former F1 boss Max Mosley and anti-press fanatics Hacked-off.
But just 76 minor print and online publications have joined - including Canary - with the majority of the media being monitored by the Independent Press Standards Organisation.
