MONICA Lewinsky was flung into the spotlight after it was revealed she had a sexual relationship with President Bill Clinton while she was interning in the White House.
The scandal turned her life upside down for almost two decades, but she's now using the experience to do good. Here's the lowdown...
Who is Monica Lewinsky and what is her background?
The 44-year-old was born in San Francisco, California.
Her dad is medical researcher and oncologist Bernard Lewinsky.
After leaving school, Monica undertook a two-year course at Santa Monica College.
She worked jobs at the drama department at Beverly Hills High School and at a tie shop before landing her role at the White House.
What was the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal and the infamous 'blue dress'?
Bill Clinton, then 49, and 22-year-old White House intern Monica Lewinsky started a sexual relationship in 1995.
Lewinsky claimed she had sexual encounters with the President on nine occasions, until March 1997, and said First Lady Hillary Clinton was at the White House for a portion of those.
She confided about the relationship to Linda Tripp - her defence department co-worker, who secretly recorded telephone conversations.
Tripp also persuaded Monica not to wash the "blue dress", which was damning evidence as it was covered in Clinton's semen stain.
The affair first came to light on the Drudge Report in 1998 before reaching the mainstream press.
Clinton was quick to deny it and even gave a White House press conference beside his wife stating that the allegations were false.
In July 1998, Lewinsky received total witness immunity in exchange for grand jury testament about her relationship with Clinton.
Clinton admitted the affair in taped grand jury testimony a few weeks later, stating he had an "improper physical relationship" with Lewinsky and later broadcast a televised statement nationally.
What has Monica Lewinsky said about Bill Clinton?
In a 1999 biography, written by Andrew Morton, Lewinsky gave her side of the story.
But Clinton's autobiography, My Life, gives a different version of events.
She believed that the former President hadn't taken responsibility for the affair.
Monica told the Daily Mail: "He could have made it right with the book, but he hasn't.
"I did at least expect him to correct the false statements he made when he was trying to protect the Presidency.
"Instead, he talked about it as though I had laid it all out there for the taking...
"This was a mutual relationship, mutual on all levels, right from the way it started and all the way through."
What is Monica Lewinsky's net worth?
It is difficult to estimate Monica's net worth.
She made around £380,000 from her biography and £758,000 from an interview with Barbara Walters in 1999.
Despite this, she has been struck with legal bills and struggled to find employment after the scandal broke.
do believe Lewinsky has profited from the ordeal, claiming in 2012 that she had a "$12 (around £9) million affair".
