Restaurant critic Giles Goren slammed for saying he’s ‘worried as f***’ his son will grow up to be overweight

RESTAURANT critic Giles Coren has been blasted for saying he is "worried as f***" his son will grow up to be overweight.

Writing in his column for, the 48-year-old called his four-year-old Sam a "fat little b*****d".

He also said he doesn't care how his son turns out "as long as he isn't fat".

The column has sparked outrage on social media with many calling it "offensive" and "fat-phobic", and accusing Mr Coren of "fat shaming" his young son.

While Giles apologised for the use of "retarded" in his article, he says he is "happy" with the rest of the piece.

Taking to Twitter, one angry reader wrote: "Fatphobia is real, harmful, disgusting, and @gilescoren isn't nearly as clever as he thinks he is.

"He's a vile neckbeard throwing his toys out of the pram because that's the only way he gets attention."

Another said: "I don't think Giles Coren could fit anymore vile disgusting stuff into that Esquire piece if he tried. Fat shaming his own son... Shame on him and the magazine."

Kate Ford said: "Can’t believe @EsquireUK thought this was a good article! #GilesCoren surely must be joking? If not then shame!"

Another user, going by the name Bluegrass Belle slammed the journalist, saying: "Giles Coren & the people who agreed to publish that article should be ashamed."

However, some social media users did agree with controversial Coren, with one writing: "I agree with Giles Coren 100%. Being fat is a killer, it gives you diabetes, cirrhosis, cancer etc. etc."

In the article, Coren compared his son to a "Gavin and Stacey-era James Corden or a well-waxed Christopher Biggins".

He also says he is worried that his son will grow up to be overweight "not only because of how it will ruin his life but because of how it will reflect on me."

He said that he isn't as worried about his daughter Kitty as "she is as skinny as a cricket".

Adding: "There are uses for a fat woman. She can be kind of cosy.

"Whereas a fat man has nothing to offer but his ability to consume. To bring forth upon the world a fat son is indeed a shame before God."
