These are the best countries on Earth to live in if you want to survive World War Three
THESE are dangerous times.
"Rocket Man" Kim Jong-un can't go five minutes without provoking the US, and there are other potential World War Three flashpoints from Syria to the South China Sea.
Combine it with a guide to the countries most likely to avoid World War Three and you've got yourself a handy list of safe havens worth high-tailing it to if it all hits the fan.
The most peaceful countries, according to the Global Peace Index
1. Iceland
2. New Zealand
3. Portugal
4. Austria
5. Denmark
6. Czech Republic
7. Slovenia
8. Canada
9. Switzerland
= 10. Ireland
= 10. Japan
Iceland
Coming it at number one on the GPI, Iceland is an obvious choice for the cataclysm-conscious among us - despite the fact it is a founding member of NATO.
But its general peacefulness makes it one of the earth's best places to be in the event of a world war, and its remote location only boosts its safe-haven credentials.
New Zealand
The world's second most peaceful country, New Zealand is a natural choice for anyone looking to escape a world war.
Kiwis aren't known for being warmongers, and New Zealand is a stunning country to boot.
Portugal
Number three according to the GPI, Portugal has steered clear of conflict since the Second World War.
Its European location does mark it out as a bit of a target, but Portugal's general stability makes up for its precarious position as a member of NATO.
Austria
Sticking with Europe, Austria is the world's fourth most peaceful country.
Take refuge here if you want to base yourself in a country so committed to avoiding war that the European Peace University was set up there.
Denmark
The Danes know how to keep their heads down, which is why the Scandinavian nation ranks as the world's fifth most peaceful place to be.
And while NATO membership marks the mainland out as a potential target, the sparsely-populated Danish island of Greenland would probably be safe as houses.
Czech Republic
Keeping it in Central Europe, the Czech Republic is next up in the list of peaceful countries.
Although its overall score has dropped since the 2016 GPI report, the country has improved its rankings when it comes to all-important relations with its neighbours.
Slovenia
Joining the cluster of European safe havens is Slovenia, coming in at number seven in the global peace guide.
The nation managed to dodge being dragged into both previous World Wars, and there's no reason why Slovenia would start picking fights now.
Canada
It may be uncomfortably close to the USA, the world's major military power, but Canada has a peaceful history.
The North American nation ranks as the world's eighth most peaceful country, with a very safe reputation as a country which steers clear of international conflict wherever possible.
Switzerland
Switzerland has not been involved in a foreign war since the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1815.
Wealthy, open and with a reputation for neutrality, the European country is the ninth most peaceful on the planet.
Ireland
Like Switzerland, Ireland has a long history of neutrality, stretching all the way back to the 1930s.
It's joint tenth with Japan when it comes to peacefulness, but Ireland hasn't had a nuclear missile launched over it recently, so it edges out the Asian state for now.
