Escaped lynx taunts zoo staff trying to recapture her by posing next to a trap and then fleeing

AN escaped lynx appeared to taunt zoo bosses by posing next to a trap  before refusing to take the bait and fleeing.

The Eurasian lynx called Lillith stared at the secret camera next to a cage, but became suspicious and disappeared into darkness.

Wildlife photographer Thomas Martin said: “It looks as though the lynx might as well be giving them the middle finger by staring  at the camera.

“The camera would have been activated by a motion sensor and then flashed right at it. It may have scared the lynx away.”

Lillith  has been missing  more than a week and has evaded heat-seeking helicopters, zoo keepers  with dart guns and dozens of police.

She is believed to be in  land  around Borth Wild Animal Kingdom, near Aberystwyth, West Wales, but farmers fear she could go further afield and attack livestock.

The zoo has been closed  so staff can focus on catching Lillith.

Owner Tracy Tweedy, 46,  insisted they were getting closer to finding her.

Police warned the lynx could become aggressive if  it is cornered.
