Bosses at some top academies are earning more than £200,000 a year
Almost a fifth of the best-paid at 121 school trusts are trousering £21million between them
BOSSES of some top academies are earning more than £200,000 a year, it emerged last night.
One rakes in almost three times as much as PM Theresa May.
Almost a fifth of the best-paid at 121 school trusts are trousering £21million between them.
Sir Dan Moynihan, head of the London-based Harris Federation which runs schools across the capital, takes home between £420,000 and £425,000, not counting his pension. The Prime Minister is paid about £150,000.
A Harris spokeswoman said: “Sir Dan’s salary is published each year in the accounts.
“He leads a federation of 44 successful academies, which employs 4,400 staff and educates 32,000 children in and around London. The majority of Harris academies are rated Outstanding — many of which joined because they were failing.”
The Times Educational Supplement analysed the annual accounts of the trusts, which all had at least one employee earning more than the PM.
It found that of the top earners, 19 per cent get at least £200,000. The second highest pay went to
Denise Shepherd of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust (TSAT) in Kent.
She took home between £295,000 and £300,000 before stepping down in the summer of last year and receiving an £85,833 “golden goodbye” in lieu of notice.
This was followed by Telford City Technology College Trust, where an unnamed worker was paid between £270,001 and £280,000.
A TSAT spokesman said: “These figures are two years old and relate to our former chief executive.
“In July 2016, we appointed a new chief executive, who is recognised as an outstanding education leader, and whose salary is £140,000 a year.”
