The gaggle of hens managed to see the funny side of their ordeal after escaping the bus and snapping a selfie with the snoozing driver

The pals claim officers later told them the driver had the highest reading they had seen. The driver, who gave his name as John, picked up the ten women in Maidstone, Kent, before heading off to the hen do in Yorkshire.

But he appeared to fall asleep on the M25 before swerving across the road and narrowly avoiding a fuel tanker. One hen, Olivia, 21, said: “I thought he was drunk at first but he kept wiping his nose, sniffing and falling asleep at the wheel.

“He responded to the tanker so slowly I almost grabbed the wheel so we didn’t crash. It was so scary.”

They got him to stop at Lakeside services in Thurrock, Essex, where the group took a selfie in front of him slumped at the wheel.

The driver was nabbed by cops shortly afterwards, and arrested on suspiction of drug-driving
When police attended they had to unload their gear and make alternative travel arrangements

Another hen Kathyrn Kent, 29, said: “After about 10 minutes we realised something was not right, he was swerving all over the road and falling asleep at the wheel.

“I was sat behind the driver and he was straying into the wrong lane.

“But what was most alarming is there was a petrol tanker coming towards us and he swerved out into its lane and we missed it by mere centimetres.

“It was absolutely terrifying.

“The fuel tanker nearly went into another car trying to avoid us, we became even more concerned at that point because we could have been killed.”

The women got taxis home and then drove to Bedale, North Yorks, where bride-to-be Sian Williams was “in tears” waiting for them.

Once they finally arrived in Yorkshire, the gaggle did not let the ordeal stop them having a good time

They say they are still waiting for a refund from the minibus hire firm.

Essex Police said: “We arrested a 51-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City on suspicion of drug driving. He was released pending further investigation.”
