THOUSANDS of travellers from around the world have gathered for the funeral of talented teenage boxer Tom Doherty today.

Tragic Tom – the nephew of Big Fat Gypsy star Paddy Doherty – was killed in a car crash in South Nutfield, Surrey on October 9.

Travellers from across the globe gathered for the mass service at the Catholic Church of English Martyrs in Horley, Surrey.

Tom’s uncles and cousins carried his coffin into the service which started with Amazing Grace.

Friends and family wore Manchester United shirts, the colours of the teenager’s favourite team, with “Tomboy 17” printed on the back.

Devastated Paddy, whose dad died six months ago, today told of his heartbreak following the death of the popular 17-year-old.

“The look on them, they are absolutely devastated.

“He was only 17 but he acted was like 30.

“He never drank [alcohol] or did drugs.”

Tomboy’s girlfriend Chantelle Doherty spoke of her devastation this afternoon, saying “He was perfect in every way”.

She told : “He was the best boyfriend. He’ll always have my heart.

“There’s no me without him.

“CD and TD forever and always.”

Followed by a convoy of Mercedes, his body was taken to Epsom cemetery in a horse-drawn hearse where he was laid to rest.

Tomboy had been tipped for sporting fame after he was selected for the Frank Bruno Boxing Academy.

Families head to the funeral of the popular teenager this afternoon

The amateur boxing champion lived in Green Lane, Outwood and was a much-loved member of the local traveller community.

In a moving tribute, his grandfather Thomas Doherty, 57, described the family’s hearbtreak at their loss.

He hailed his grandson as “a living soul, a legend, a great boy” and “a brilliant amateur boxer.”

Tom was driving a white Citroen Berlingo when it crashed at 7.50pm October 9.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
