FOUND ROUND POUND?

Brave daughter of soldier killed in action urges Sun readers to donate old pound coins to our brilliant Pounds for Poppies appeal

THE girl in the picture below is only eight but knows the reality of life for Forces’ families.

Brooke Scott was just seven months old when dad Cpl Lee Scott, 26, died on what would become one of the Army’s darkest days in Afghanistan, when six soldiers were killed.

Now Brooke is urging every Sun reader to donate their old round £1 coins – which went out of circulation last week – to our brilliant Pounds for Poppies appeal.

Brooke, from King’s Lynn, Norfolk, says: “Seeing everyone wearing poppies means a lot. It shows that people all over the country are also thinking about our dads and all our heroes.”

Around 1,000 youngsters like Brooke are living without a parent who died while serving.

Her mum, Nikki, 36, set up the Scotty’s Little Soldiers charity, which helps children who lost a parent in the Forces.

Nikki says: “For these children it is Remembrance Day every day.

“By supporting the appeal, you are not only remembering those who died serving our country but also showing the loved ones they left behind they are not alone.”

Today is the official launch of the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal, which aims to raise £47million to help veterans and their families.

So between now and Remembrance Sunday next month, dig out your round pounds and give them to one of the 150,000 poppy sellers nationwide.
