Disgraced MP Jared O’Mara spews racist, homophobic and sexist bile — so why hasn’t the Labour party suspended him?

DISGRACED Labour MP Jared O’Mara is yet to speak in Parliament. It might not be a bad thing if it stays that way.

If what comes out of his mouth in the Commons is the same as the bile he spews on the internet, the BBC Parliament channel will have to go on after the watershed.

The troll MP’s patronising “apology’” for his crass comments — blaming “lad culture and football” — isn’t enough.

Since he was elected, his main achievements include a disastrous TV interview and three written questions, not about his Sheffield Hallam constituency, but about Israel and Palestine.

Now it turns out “Momentum’s first MP” doesn’t like meeting his constituents on a Friday, because he’s hungover.

It’s almost enough for us to wish that Nick Clegg — who O’Mara unseated in June — was still in Parliament.

Incredibly, despite O’Mara’s attempt to update the character of Kevin the Teenager for the internet age, the Labour Party are yet to suspend him.

Instead they are conducting an “investigation” into his rare hat-trick of racism, sexism and homophobia, no doubt hoping the story will go away.

That’s no surprise.

He is, after all, one of the hard-Left cheerleaders propping up Jeremy Corbyn.

 Save our shops

BUSINESSES have had it tough in recent years, with new taxes and levies making their lives more difficult.

So the last thing our small firms need is their own councils snooping around to see if they can squeeze out a few extra quid.

The whole system of business rates needs an overhaul.

The Government’s promised a review, and it’s about time they got on with it.

Our shopkeepers are suffering enough from online competition without being charged over the odds.

The Communities Secretary and the Chancellor mustn’t kick this into the long grass.

And in the meantime, councils should give their local firms a break.

 Operation NHS

WE’RE all rightly proud of the hard-working everyday heroes who keep our NHS going in the toughest of circumstances.

That’s why we honoured some of the doctors and nurses who have gone beyond the call of duty at our Who Cares Wins awards a fortnight ago.

But that doesn’t mean the NHS is immune from criticism. It’s shocking that an additional 5,000 operations a week could be performed with simple efficiency improvements.

We can’t close our eyes to the fact that our population is getting older and money is tight. Protecting the NHS for the next generation means asking how we can improve it today.

A dose of realism is badly needed.
