Mystery as Brit tourist who vanished in Vietnam ‘after being kidnapped by taxi driver’ is found safe 16 hours later

He was returning from a night out with friends when the taxi driver sped off with him still in the car

BRITISH tourist feared kidnapped after being bundled into a taxi and driven away after night out with friends in Vietnam has been found alive.

Connor Leslie, 23, from Aberdeen was returning to his hotel in Hanoi with two friends Matthew Foy and Matt Shuttleton at around 2.30am.

When they got to their hotel, the taxi driver sped off with Connor still in the car.

After a frantic 16 hours a family member confirmed he has been found alive but his condition remains unknown.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have also confirmed he has been found.

His cousin, Scott Leslie, told BBC:  "It's fantastic news that he's been found.

"We don't know where he is or what condition he is in - we just want him home now."

Connor's frantic friends had taken to social media in an attempt to track him down.

Friend David Andrew wrote in an Instagram post: "Connor Leslie was taken against his will by a taxi driver at roughly 2:30am (9.30pm UK) last night and has not been seen since.

"His last location was at watermark Tay ho 395 LAC long quan tay ho Hanoi, Vietnam."

He also shared a photo of Connor taken just hours before he vanished.

Friend Lewis Dickson told the : “They had not long arrived in Hanoi, it was their first night out and they had been chatting to the taxi driver. When he offered to give them a lift home, they thought nothing of it.

“We have informed the British embassy in Hanoi, we just want to find him safe and well."

He added that his friends have managed to get a translator who is helping them liaise with local police.

Connor is in Vietnam with a group of friends, they had just started their holiday in the country before heading to Cambodia and Australia.
