Man medics gave up on saved after wife pleaded for them to try again
Chris Hickey was confirmed dead 55 minutes after his heart stopped beating - only to be revived 13 minutes later
A MAN whose heart stopped for 68 minutes was saved after his wife begged medics to try and revive him one more time.
Chris Hickey was declared dead 55 minutes after suffering a cardiac arrest.
But following the desperate plea by wife Sue Davies a doctor gave CPR for another 13 minutes before finding a pulse at his home in Cheltenham, Gloucs.
Medics also shocked Chris’s heart 12 times.
Sue, 62, found her husband of 38 years collapsed in their bedroom in July. She rang 999 then gave CPR for five minutes until firefighters, paramedics, a doctor and air ambulance arrived.
HR boss Chris, 63, said: “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Sue — absolutely no doubt. I should be dead, no question about it. There’s no medical reason why I should be here.
“It’s totally awe inspiring. What more can you do for someone, than what she did?”
Chris is thought to have suffered Sudden Adult Death, which affects 30,000 people a year in the UK. Only eight per cent survive.
Chris has now made a full recovery but has no memory of his ordeal.
Business coach Sue, a mum-of-one, said: “It just couldn’t be Chris’s time. It was like a bomb going off in our family.”
