BORIS Johnson was filmed struggling to get into Number 10 this morning in a hilarious metaphor for his thwarted ambitions to become Prime Minister.

The Foreign Secretary was heading to Cabinet as Theresa May got ready to face her top team in full for the first time since her calamitous conference speech last week.

That led to a botched attempt fronted by disgraced ex-minister Grant Shapps to oust her, which she saw off over the weekend.

There has been speculation Mrs May will purge some of her top ministers in a reshuffle to try and reassert her authority weakened by a disastrous address to delegates and weeks of in-fighting.

One of those she is being urged to ditch is Mr Johnson, who has been accused of wanting to depose the PM and run for the top job again.

But he found it difficult to even physically make it inside Downing Street this morning, after he and Cabinet colleague Liam Fox were left stood outside the famous black door.

A clip showed the minister knocking not once but twice as the waiting media shouted questions at him before finally it was opened from the other side.

Both Mr Johnson and Michael Gove gave a public display of loyalty yesterday by praising Mrs May's statement to MPs on Brexit.

This was despite the PM indicating that European judges will still have a role during the UK's transition out of the EU.

And the Foreign Secretary has distanced himself from reports claiming he would resist any attempt to demote him - and insisted "friends and allies" quoted in media reports were not speaking for him and did not represent his views.
