Only an MP untarnished by Theresa May’s leadership will be able to win the next election, a poll reveals
The best candidate to beat Jeremy Corbyn will be 'someone young and not currently in government'
ONLY a rookie MP untarnished from Theresa May’s leadership will be able to win the next election for the Tories, a fresh poll has found.
None of the current crop of ministers - including Boris Johnson - would be able to reverse the party’s plunge in the polls better Theresa May.
The best-placed candidate to beat Jeremy Corbyn will be “someone quite young and able who is not currently in government”, according to the latest ICM survey of voters.
It suggests there is little point in the Tories changing leader with another Cabinet minister - despite plots to oust her.
Boris has a net approval rating of minus 21 - worse than his bitter rival Philip Hammond on -19. Home Secretary fared slightly better on -17.
International Development Secretary Priti Patel was on -25 while popular backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg was -23.
The only candidate with a net positive approval rating was the young, unnamed candidate - scoring +9 in the poll.
