Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party Conference speech was a smug, self-satisfied back-slapping tour de force

Somehow the Labour leader thinks Marxism is now 'mainstream', so it's no wonder he forgot to denounce the evil socialist dictatorships of North Korea and Venezuela

AS a display of smug, self-satisfied back-slapping, Jeremy Corbyn’s big speech yesterday was a tour de force.

We still don’t get why the comrades are so cock-a-hoop. Labour lost by 56 seats in June to a cost-cutting Tory Government fighting the worst campaign in its history under a lacklustre leader.

But from this, a few decent polls and crowds chanting his name, Corbyn concludes Marxism is now “mainstream”.

We don’t buy it. Not when his vision for Britain is as vacuous and economically insane as he outlined in Brighton.

In fairness he did score into the open goals the Tories have gifted him. He gave their campaign a deserved kicking.

He pinpointed the damaging effects of some cuts, but idiotically claimed they were a Tory plot to make the rich richer instead of vital to balance the books.

He rightly highlighted the lack of affordable homes, which the Tories have done too little to sort. But Corbyn’s remedies would KILL the property supply.

He rightly attacked the greed of the privatised utilities. But this is just an extension of his adolescent loathing for profit-making firms which create jobs.

Corbyn was cynical and dishonest: scoring political points over the Grenfell disaster with the inquiry barely begun.

Casually “guaranteeing” unimpeded access to the EU single market post-Brexit, currently only possible by surrendering immigration control forever.

Listing repressive regimes but NOT the most obvious, the evil socialist dictatorships of North Korea and Venezuela.

The “Absolute Boy”, they call him. This was absolute dross.

LET’S nail one Corbyn lie, that the Press fuelled online attacks on politicians including the apparently saintly Diane Abbott.

She wants to be Home Secretary. It was the media’s job to call her out for failing to answer questions on her brief.

The racist abuse she later received was appalling. But blaming the Press is a deceitful attempt to deter further scrutiny. And it’s rich too from a man whose supporters are the vilest of all trolls.

Corbyn should be mortified that the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg needed a minder at his conference. And that the creatures at his Canary propaganda site spread more lies about her yesterday.

The truth is this: the worst online political abuse comes from sanctimonious Corbynistas unable to encounter dissent without explosions of shrieking hate.

Save jobs, PM

THERESA May must talk sense into Donald Trump over the Boeing-Bombardier row.

There are wider issues at stake even beyond the many jobs at risk in Belfast.

We and the US are mad keen on a post-Brexit trade deal. A trade war over our aircraft makers must not kill it at birth.
