THE UK’s happiest place is Craven in North Yorkshire, a survey has revealed.

Residents of the Dales district rated their level of happiness as 8.3 out of ten — well above the national average of 7.5.

For life satisfaction they rated 8.5, compared with a UK average of 7.7.

The survey by the Office for National Statistics was compiled between April 2016 and March 2017.

It shows a UK-wide increase in average happiness and life satisfaction, compared with the previous year.

Statistician Matthew Steel said: “It’s worth noting that employment rates rose during the period covered by this report.”

Craven also had the lowest level of anxiety.
