FRANCE'S President last night launched a startling bid to centralise power in the Eurozone - with his own party running the show.

Emmanuel Macron set out his borderless vision that would merge the finances, intelligence, law and order, border control and defence of countries that use the Euro.

And he slammed Brexit as a "false notion of sovereignty.” The ambitious Frenchman even suggested: "In a few years, if it so wishes, Britain could regain its place” inside his new simplified EU.

Speaking at the Sorbonne University in Paris, Mr Macron said: “The Europe that we know is too weak, too slow, too inefficient.” He added: “But Europe alone can give us the ability to act in the world, faced with big contemporary challenges.” And he called for a powerful new office to set budgets for countries who use the Euro, and merge their prosecutors and legal systems.

He also wishes to set up a Europe-wide asylum policy and a “rapid reaction response” as an EU military force.

And he suggested a raft of cross-border taxes to pay for it all.

Last night Nigel Farage told The Sun: “Brexiteers told you so - it is clear that a centralised EU is going ahead." Mr Macron has also spoken of his wish to roll out his election smashing new party En Marche! out across the continent by forming alliances with other centrist parties, which could see him tighten his grip on power beyond France.

The speech comes just days after Jean Claude Juncker outlined his dream of a massive expansion of EU powers.

Last night the chief Eurocrat welcomed Mr Macron’s speech as “very European”.

But Mr Macron’s vision for a United States of Europe could hit the buffers due to the political turmoil in Germany.

It is likely Chancellor Angela Merkel will have to tone down her support for a bigger and bolder EU as she attempts to negotiate a coalition with other parties to stay in office.
