Man, 22, raped in alleyway after leaving Glasgow nightclub in early hours

A police cordon was put in place off Argyle Street in the early hours as detectives carried out investigations

A YOUNG man was raped in an alleyway as he left a nightclub in the early hours of this morning.

Cops said the 22-year-old was sexually assaulted by another man at 3.40am in Glasgow city centre.

The victim had previously left a nearby nightclub and met the suspect before being raped in the quiet lane.

A police cordon was put in place just off Argyle Street in the early hours as detectives carried out investigations.

It is understood the victim was not taken to hospital.

The suspect is described as black but no further description has been given.

Detective Inspector David Reilly said: “The victim has been left extremely distressed by what happened and it is vital that we trace the individual responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the surrounding area in the early hours of this morning who may have seen anything suspicious to please get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Public Protection Unit based at London Road via 101 and quote incident number 1051 of September 24 2017.

"Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
