Woman loses her leg following collision with tram while ‘on her phone’ as she crosses the tracks
Local reports said pedestrian ignored the red lights at crossing and was talking on her phone before crash in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
A WOMAN has lost her leg after walking into the path of a tram while on her mobile phone.
Shocking footage shows the moment the 40-year-old approaches the pedestrian crossing with the device in her hand.
She fails to check either direction before strolling over the crossing and past a waiting bystander.
The tram has no opportunity to stop in time before colliding with her when she is halfway across the track.
The vehicle hits her with great force and she is slammed to the ground and dragged along the track.
The tram driver manages to bring the carriages to a halt a few metres from the crossing as startled bystanders look on.
The horrifying incident took place yesterday in Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine.
Local reports said she the ignored the lights and was speaking on the phone at the time.
They said her right leg was sliced off in the collision and that she had been left in a “bloody mess”.
She has been taken to hospital where she has undergone surgery for her injuries.
