£1.2m drug den

Mansion bought by £45m lottery winners is a haven for drug addicts and rats — leaving the house in complete disrepair

Police have been called at least 12 times about trespassers who take drugs, smash windows and start fires

A MANSION bought by £45million lottery winners has become a rat-infested magnet for drug addicts.

Couple Matt and Cassey Topham, both 28, spent £1.2million on the seven-bed pile in 2012. But they still have not moved in and the once-grand property has fallen into disrepair.

Gangs of youths have been taking drugs, starting fires and smashing up the interior. Police have been called at least a dozen times with trespassers ignoring a 12ft fence.

The Tophams have now applied to demolish the 1930s mansion and build a new home there.

One neighbour in Adams Hill, Nottingham, said: “It's a blight on a very nice area.

“The Tophams have shedloads of money and should be spending some to end this farce — or at least on security. The house became known as the “Scariest place in Nottingham to have your photo taken” on a Snapchat group — which only attracted more youths.

“We have been told by the council that all the toilets have been smashed, leaving the drains open. That in turn attracted rats.

“There is also an empty swimming pool, which is a real danger too. I’m surprised no one has been seriously hurt in there.”

Another said: “The garden resembles a jungle. The Tophams haven’t done anything to endear themselves to us.”

The pad, known as Rainbow House, backs on to Wollaton Hall — Wayne Manor in 2012 Batman film The Dark Knight Rises.

The Tophams’ earlier plan for a £5m eco-home with four pods clad in turf and dubbed a “Teletubby house” has been shelved.

A application for a new design is with Nottingham City Council.
