Mum’s fury after girl, 15, is suspended for five days for wearing too much make-up – and she is refusing to remove it
Freya King, 15, was sent home for five days after teachers carrying out 'prison-like inspections' on the gates spotted her
A MUM has slammed her daughter's school after she was excluded for five days for wearing too much make up.
Chrissie King claims 15-year-old Freya was "singled out" by teachers who were lined up at the gates to carry out strict uniform inspections.
The 53-year-old claims the "terrified" teen was marched to the office where staff told her she would not be allowed back for five days because she had been warned several times before.
The mum has now blasted Sir Robert Woodard Academy in Lancing, West Sussex, for blocking her daughter's education in her important GCSE year.
And she is refusing to change Freya's make up "for the time-being" as both her and husband Jason agree it wasn't that bad to start off with.
She fumed: "It's absolutely ridiculous - five days off school in such an important year because they think she was wearing too much make up.
"I saw what she looked like and it really wasn't that bad.
"Freya was terrified when she got sent the office and phoned me all upset because she had been excluded.
"I can get maybe giving her a detention but to send her home for a full school week is madness.
"I feel like they've singled Freya out and now she's losing out on an education because of the school's ludicrous rules.
"It just seems excessive to me."
Chrissie admitted Freya has in the past plastered too much slap on, but said the schoolgirl has started wearing less after she gave her a talking to.
She believes the school, which was rated as requires improvement at the last Oftsed in 2015, has been picking on students since new headteacher Kieran Scanlon took over.
The mum said: "I get some teenage girls will wear too much and Freya has done that in the past but she's really toned it down recently so I don't understand.
"The school have a new headteacher and they keep doing prison-like inspections at the gates to check uniforms, which is a waste of time.
"I understand there are rules in place but she is always immaculate.
"To stop her education makes me think they have gone a bit OTT."
On the mixed gender school's website, it states make up should be "kept to a minimum and natural looking", adding: "No nail varnish should be worn. No false eyelashes or false nails permitted. These can only be applied during the holidays and must be removed on returning to school."
A spokesman told Sun Online: “Sir Robert Woodard Academy operates a smart and professional dress code for all students that helps prepare them for the working world. This dress code is clearly stated on our website and in parent and student handbooks. It is repeatedly reinforced in school assemblies and by teachers.
“In a school, rules have to be implemented and observed and while in this case repeated warnings were given, they were constantly ignored.
“We do not exclude without careful consideration but the student’s open disregard and attitude has led us to take this action.”
