MILE HIGH ROLLICKING

Theresa May orders Boris Johnson to fly home from UN General Assembly with her on RAF jet — sparking rumours of a ‘mile high argument’

The two Cabinet rivals were originally due to fly separately but have changed their plans ahead of Theresa May's landmark Brexit speech in Florence this Friday

THERESA May ordered Boris Johnson to fly home from New York on her RAF flight, sparking suspicion she wants to give him a mile high rollicking.

The Foreign Secretary was due to come home from the two-day UN General Assembly on a commercial flight on Thursday afternoon.

But it has emerged he was told by No10 to change his plans and accompany the Tory leader on the seven-hour overnight flight to London on Wednesday night.

No10 officials refused to say what the Premier wanted to discuss with Boris.

But the PM is known to be furious with him over his very public challenge to her plan to break Brexit talks deadlock and his resignation hints.

The PM’s official spokesman would only say: “He will be with us at the front”.

Like every other Cabinet minister, Boris has also been ordered to attend a special meeting of her top table tomorrow morning to sign off her landmark Brexit speech in Florence on Friday.

In a 4,000 word article last Saturday, Mr Johnson lashed out at her new offer to pay up to £10bn a year for continued access to the EU’s single market after Britain’s EU departure for a transition period of at least two years.

Mrs May also won the backing of another prominent Brexiteer, Cabinet minister Priti Patel over the spat with Boris.

In a slap down to the mop-haired senior Tory, the International Development said in New York while also at the UN General Assembly: “Let’s be clear, this isn’t about individual views of cabinet ministers.

“We in Cabinet are united behind approach of Theresa May, and that is the right approach as it is focused on getting best deal for UK.”

There has always been tension between Mrs May and Boris, who ran against each other for the Tory crown last year.

Since then, the PM has jokingly threatened to put down Boris like a dog who has ceased to be of any use to her master during an awards ceremony speech.
