When was the Parsons Green attack in London, what happened during the Tube explosion and who has been convicted?
Ahmed Hassan Mohammed Ali has been convicted of attempted murder and using the chemical compound TATP to cause an explosion that was likely to endanger life on September 15 last year
ON the morning of September 15 an improvised explosive device exploded on a District Line Tube as it passed through Parsons Green in West London.
Thirty people were injured including a schoolboy after a "fireball flew down a carriage" on the Tube train.
What happened at Parsons Green?
The explosion struck a District Line train at Parsons Green at 8.20am on September 15.
Passengers suffered facial burns after the incident inside the carriage as it was sat at the West London station.
A crude device placed in a Lidl bag which was then stuffed inside a white bucket and left by the carriage door near the rear of the train exploded.
Passengers were seen running and screaming from the tracks as witnesses described seeing a giant fireball flying down the train.
Initial reports suggested a knifeman was on the loose and a second bomb was being search for but Scotland Yard soon confirmed this wasn't the case.
Those at the scene were seen crying and embracing each other as they fled the station.
Who is the defendant?
Ahmed Hassan Mohammed Ali, claims to be 18, and is an asylum seeker from Iraq.
During his attempted murder trial pretended to engage with the anti-terrorism Prevent scheme as he plotted mass murder in the capital.
He made a bomb with 400g of "Mother of Satan" explosives and 2.2kg of shrapnel while his unsuspecting foster parents were on holiday in Blackpool.
The Old Bailey heard he wanted to avenge the death of his father in Iraq and was "disappointed" when the bomb only partly detonated in a huge fireball.
Hassan destroyed his phone and changed into a Chelsea football shirt as he fled London with more than £2,000 in cash but was picked up by police at the Port of Dover the next day.
A jury rejected his explanation that he only wanted to act out a fantasy like the Tom Cruise film Mission: Impossible and convicted him of multiple attempted murder.
He made no reaction as Mr Justice Haddon-Cave handed him a life sentence with a minimum term of 34 years.
The judge said the defendant was a "dangerous and devious individual" who quietly went about plotting his attack with "ruthless determination and almost military efficiency while pretending to be a model asylum seeker".
