Tory MP Michael Fabricant set to appear on Celebrity First Dates to raise £25,000 for charity – but Theresa May jokes she is unsure if he’s the celeb or the date

The Lichfield blonde bombshell will appear on the reality TV show, the PM announced during PMQs

A TORY MP is set to appear on Celebrity First Dates, Theresa May has revealed.

The eccentric blonde-topped Michael Fabricant, the MP for Lichfield, is set to go on the Channel 4 show which sets up regular members of the public up on blind dates with celebs.

Mrs May let the gossip slip during today's Prime Minister's Questions, amid answering questions on Brexit, tuition fees and disabled people.

But it was actually revealed in The Sun's TV pages last week.

A source told us: "Michael has preferred to leave his love life ambiguous, so who he’s matched up with  will be  revealing.

"He’s one of the biggest pro-Brexit MPs, so that golden rule of dating – don’t discuss politics – is bound to be broken.

"It could be explosive."

And Mrs May spread the news to the Commons this lunchtime: "I have noticed that my Honourable Friend is shortly to appear on a channel 4 programme called Celebrity First Dates.

"What I'm not sure about is whether my Honourable friend is the Celebrity or the First Date," she joked.

The West Midland's MP pulled an embarrassed face as colleagues from across the House laughed at the revelation.

It's not yet known when he will appear, but the new series of First Dates returns on September 18 at 10pm.

He will donate the £25,000 to Cancer Research, he revealed later on.

The politician was only trying to ask the Prime Minister to back Birmingham's bid to host the the Commonwealth Games.

He said he hoped she would continue to "bat for Britain to ensure Birmingham wins the Commonwealth games over Kuala Lumpa."

After the laughter died down, Mrs May replied: "Obviously the Commonwealth Games being hosted in the UK in 2022 in Birmingham would provide a unique opportunity, and promote global Britain across the Commonwealth.

"I have no doubt Birmingham will continue the UK's rich history of hosting successful sporting events."
