Let Brussels rage but ‘hard Brexit’ is simply ‘Brexit’ and that’s what the UK voted for
The so-called 'hard Brexit' letter that's backed by 30 Tory MPs makes sound sense to us
THE so-called “hard Brexit” letter backed by 30 Tory MPs makes sound sense to us.
That’s because “hard Brexit” is just “Brexit”. And we have made the same suggestions ourselves.
It insists any transition period must not be prolonged by the EU against our will. And it demands we be free to sign our own trade agreements during that time.
That will enrage Brussels. But it is crucial we can at least negotiate those deals, ready to sign the day we finally leave.
We don’t envy Theresa May, caught in the crossfire between resolute Brexiters and scheming Remainers trying to scupper the vital EU Withdrawal Bill.
Thankfully her position, like most of Brit- ain’s, is nearer the former than the latter.

A Tory fix
THE Tories must win back young voters.
Some argue under-45s will never vote Tory again. We don’t buy it. Only two years ago, before the Corbyn craze, they were level with Labour in that age group.
But young people ARE fed up with low wages, high rent, crazily unaffordable houses and a system favouring the old.
Despite our still-vast debts, the Tories need to find money and ideas. One is to turbo-charge house-building. Property owners will be more wary of a Marxist Labour Party wrecking our economy.
And there are imaginative ways to make homes more affordable — such as building on publicly-owned land but selling ONLY the properties, not the ground beneath. It slashes the price.
Mr Hammond needs radical solutions.
Without them the Tories will pay the price, and under Corbyn so would we all.
Mogg flogged
THE bile heaped on posh Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg over his religious views is vile.
He is a traditional Catholic opposed to gay marriage and all abortion. So what?
The Sun doesn’t happen to agree with him. But he holds his views honestly and sincerely and would not seek to impose them on his party or country.
That’s partly because he is not a genuine contender to lead either. It is also because he is well aware most people nowadays think differently.
The hate directed at him by self-styled liberals is sinister and repugnant.
They have set about assassinating his character, as they do with anyone holding “wrong” opinions. But Rees-Mogg is bright, principled, brave and unfailingly charming. If only more MPs were.
He may seem like a toff sent here from the 19th Century. To many voters he is a breath of fresh air.
