Furious mum slams school for putting son, 13, in isolation because his hair is ‘too short and inappropriate’

Lisa Humphrey, 41, said she was left disgusted when she received a call from Havelock Academy, Lincolnshire, telling her that his haircut was too short.

A MUM has hit out at her son's school after her 13-year-old was placed in isolation because of his haircut.

Lisa Humphrey, 41, said she was left disgusted when she received a call from Havelock Academy, Lincolnshire, telling her that his haircut was too short and judged to be "inappropriate."

Lisa, of Grimsby, took matters into her own hands and collected son Harry Russell-Humphrey from school, telling the school's staff that he will not return for the next four weeks until his hair has grown back.

But she insisted her son will not be changing a hairstyle he has had throughout his time at Havelock Academy.

"I think it's disgusting to put him isolation. His haircut shouldn't have an effect on his education. It's pathetic," she said.

"I told them that he has always had this hair cut. I went and picked him up because he's not going in isolation for something that I know is not right."

Lisa said her son, who is in Year 9 at Havelock Academy, has never been put in isolation before over his hair cut and was well behaved at school, having recently been awarded a medal for the number of house points he had achieved.

The school's uniform policy states that "inappropriate hairstyles will not be accepted at the academy" and that "hairstyles must be no shorter than a grade two."

However, Lisa said her son's hair was cut to grade two when she took him to the barbers, in the same way he always gets it cut.

Harry said: "I think it's disgraceful. I feel a bit angry with the way they have dealt with it. I think they're getting a bit too strict."

A number of other parents have also reported that their children have been placed into isolation over their hairstyle.
