POLICE believe the crossbow bolt shot into The Oval cricket ground during a game may have been fired from a nearby roof terrace.

Detectives were seen searching above flats.

The arrow landed on the pitch and narrowly missed Surrey player Rory Burns.

One resident said: “A member of the public could have conned their way in. Fifty flats have access to that terrace.”

Surrey’s First Division match in South London was abandoned.

Police hope a spectator may have captured the shot on video and have appealed for help.

A spokesman said: “This was a reckless action.”
