Heart-stopping moment woman is shot dead by cop after pulling out a gun and opening fire when she crashed her car into a tree

Female driver is filmed suddenly pulling out a gun on a police officer who returns fire and shoots her in the head and arm

THE is the dramatic moment a deadly gun battle breaks out between cops and an armed female driver after she crashed her vehicle.

The dash cam footage was recorded when a police officer pulls over and finds Tina Renee Medlin, 50, lying face down on the grass in front of a crashed vehicle.

The dramatic 80-second clip captured the deadly shootout unfold on the Interstate 40 near Newton Grove, North Carolina.

It shows an officer step out of his cruiser and approach Medlin.

But as the officer begins to walk toward Medlin, he is warned by a someone else on the scene that the seemingly injured woman is armed.

When the officer demands that Medlin show her hands, she hesitates.

But the police officer shoots her in the arm and head she then slumps to the ground

Before she was shot, Medlin had been seen in the video standing up with one of her hands concealed.

But moments later, she flashes her gun and starts shooting at the police officers.

The officer and another law enforcement agent not pictured in the footage return fire and shoots her in the head and right arm.

Medlin died three days later in hospital from her injuries, according to .

But police bosses believe the two officers, North Carolina State Trooper J.L. Taylor and Johnston County Deputy Taylor Davis, acted appropriately.

Authorities released the video footage which was recorded on the morning July 8 to explain why the officers should not face criminal charges.

It is unclear at this stage why Medlin opened fire on the police.
