Prisoners arranged for a ‘guard’s car to be firebombed for revenge’ — but bombed the wrong vehicle
It is believed that prisoners organised the attack on mobile phones
PRISONERS arranged for a guard’s car to be firebombed after he cracked down on them but got the wrong vehicle.
A white BMW owned by a prison nurse was left a charred wreck in the car park outside HMP Risley, Cheshire.
The target’s BMW was a different colour.
A source said: “This was a revenge attack. A prison officer was warned his BMW would be torched because he was doing his job.
“Intelligence suggests prisoners ordered the hit on smuggled mobiles to make a point."
Glyn Travis of the Prison Officers Association said: “This is another example of the violence our members face on a daily basis.
“Clearly, an attempt has been made to intimidate staff via a cowardly attack on one of their vehicles.
“It underlines what a tough job officers face at a time when we are understaffed and underpaid.”
The category C jail holds 1,095 inmates and the twelve inmates involved were shipped to other jails across the country following the attack.
