QUEEN Victoria's rule from 1837 to 1901 defined Britain and the world — but it is her love for her husband Prince Albert which forms the central theme of the acclaimed ITV drama Victoria.
So, when did she marry the German Prince who was also her first cousin, how many children did they have together and when did she die?
When did Queen Victoria marry Prince Albert?
Queen Victoria met her first cousin Prince Albert when their uncle Leopold, King of the Belgians, thought they would make a good pair.
An arranged family get-together in May 1836 allowed them to see each other for the first time.
The then 17-year-old Queen had already received various marriage proposals and had been introduced to a parade of eligible Princes.
But she instantly fell for the Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, whom she described as, "extremely handsome".
She wrote: "His hair is about the same colour as mine; his eyes are large and blue, and he has a beautiful nose and a very sweet mouth with fine teeth; but the charm of his countenance is his expression, which is most delightful."
Victoria thanked her Uncle Leopold and the pair were engaged three years later, once she took to the throne and proposed to the Prince.
The couple married on February 10, 1840, at the Chapel Royal in St James's Palace.

Princess Helena was born 25 May 1846 and would go on to marry Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein.

Prince Albert had died much younger aged 42 on 14 December 1861 from typhoid fever - Victoria was reportedly never the same after his death, saying "My life as a happy one is ended. The world is gone for me."
