Remainers like to pretend the EU holds all the trump cards — but it’s in their best interests to work with us
Germany's finance ministry revealed fears for their economy if we walked away without a proper deal
A good trade
REMAINERS like to pretend that the EU holds all the trump cards in the complex Brexit negotiations.
They insist the 27 EU countries will stick together and freeze us out.
But the fact remains that those countries export a massive amount of goods to the UK. They sell more stuff here than to China, Russia, India and Brazil combined.
So it is massively in their interest to work with Britain. They know which side their bread is buttered on.
Proof of this came in a report from Germany’s finance ministry yesterday which revealed genuine fears of damage to its economy if we are allowed to walk away without a proper trade deal.
So Britain must not give in on Theresa May’s red line on complete withdrawal from the European Court of Justice.
One answer could be to join the court of the European Free Trade Association — as used by Norway.
EFTA president Carl Baudenbacher says it would allow Britain to trade freely while ditching the hated ECJ.
It’s not often that Europe offers us a decent deal. We should take him up on it.

Cops’ drag net
SWATHES of social media are now blighted by a relatively small number of nasty, vicious and cowardly keyboard warriors.
Now the Crown Prosecution Service says it is going to crack down on the problem with tougher guidelines.
Of course, those who post genuine death threats should feel the full force of the law.
But can it be wholly right for the police to inevitably pour huge resources into this minefield of “he said, she said” while leaving hundreds of thousands of other crimes unsolved?
Wouldn’t it be better for the cops to catch burglars and rapists than spend hours dealing with teenage losers sitting in their pants sending vile messages to celebrities?
Isn’t the court of public opinion the best place to silence the online morons, instead of clogging the courts of law and filling up our jails needlessly?
And surely the real responsibility for policing social media belongs to the likes of Facebook, which make billions in profits while doing little or nothing to stem this tide of hate.
Or must the taxpayer pick up the bill for this, too?
