Asda signed him up after he finished a chemistry master’s degree because of the demand for craft beer.

Part of his course involved a six-month research placement in California sampling American craft beers.

Ale and Craft Beer Buyer Hywel, who still enjoys going out for a drink at night, said: “It’s a dream job.

“Craft beer is booming and I feel lucky to be at the heart of the action.

Leeds-based Hywel, who graduated from Southampton University, added: “The skills I gained in my degree can easily be applied to my job, as brewing beer is all about experimenting with ingredients and flavours.”
