But the Joshua team are said to be disappointed that Khan seemingly got wife Faryal to say sorry instead after she broke her silence to reveal the bombshell allegations were fake.

An insider told Sun Online: "AJ's name has been dragged through the mud through no fault of his own which is totally unfair. We think an apology is the least he should expect.

"Anthony's team are furious at what they consider to be a publicity stunt. They don't want to be dragged into the Khans' business.

"Anthony's legal team got in touch as soon as it happened and Amir immediately promised to apologise.

"But it seems he has got his wife to do it - which is disappointing."

Faryal today denied claims she had cheated with Joshua on Twitter.

She wrote: "I've been quiet for some time... because I myself didn't know what's going on.

"Everything that's going on is just not right and a complete misunderstanding.

"The screenshots sent to Amir were 'fake' and Amir thought Joshua and I were speaking... when we have never even met.

"Anger took the better of him and he tweeted away without thinking there was absolutely NO truth to it.

"It's all cleared up with both teams now and again, there was NOTHING like that going on.

"Apologies for all this nonsense. Let's get on with life now..."

Amir responded: "Glad all is cleared up and all lies. I got angry like any man would. No truth to it.

"Good to know. All the best."

He later added: "I partied in Dubai with friends to get my wife angry," he shared on Twitter. "Shouldn't have.

"That's not like me and I'll prove that.

"I still have made my decision to leave Faryal. It happens in life. The relationship was getting unhealthy. I wish her nothing but the best."

The rumours sparked a social media storm between Amir and Faryal as he told his followers he was splitting with his wife of four years.

The spat had started after a tweet was posted to the boxer’s account reading: “So me and the wife Faryal have agreed to split. I’m currently in Dubai. Wish her all the best.”

He then went on to make sensational claims she had moved on with fellow boxer Joshua as their troubled marriage appeared to implode in public.

Joshua was tagged in a tweet that read: “Faryal moved on quick. Always mentioned to me how much she wanted to be with another guy, from all people another boxer.

“Lol moved up in the weight classes lol. Trust me I ain’t the jealous type. No need to send me pictures of the men your talking to.”
