Grandfather, 77, arrested after ‘drunk woman’ POSTED Snapchat video of rape
The video led to the the arrest of James Allen, of Marblehead, Ohio, after a friend alerted police to the situation
A GRANDFATHER was arrested for rape when his alleged victim posted a “horrific” Snapchat video of the assault, cops claim.
A friend of the 20-year-old woman who saw the video alerted officers, leading to the arrest of 77-year-old James Allen, of Marblehead, Ohio.
Ottawa County Prosecutor James VanEerten says he believes the video clearly shows a sexual assault taking place.
He says it’s unclear whether the young woman live-streamed the attack or posted the video shortly afterward.
Danbury Township Police Chief Michael S. Meisler said they were called on Tuesday morning by a Texas-based friend of the alleged victim, who asked officers to check on her.
Police officers then went to Allen’s home and Allen took them upstairs to see the woman, who was seemingly drunk but otherwise fine.
At around 3.45am the friend in Texas called officers again and told them he saw a Snapchat video that appeared to show a sexual assault and Allen was arrested.
Snapchat is a popular mobile phone app that allows users to create recorded messages and share them online.
Meisler said the woman protested the assault several times in the video.
Allen had given the alleged victim booze that evening, police claim.
He is being held on a $1 million bond.
Allen appeared in court Wednesday and told a judge he didn’t have an attorney but plans on hiring one.
VanEerten says it appears the woman was impaired while recording the video. He’s asking people to stop sharing it on social media.
He told : “It’s obviously horrific, but at least it allowed us to put a stop to the situation and make a quick arrest in this case.”
