Amir Khan says he is ‘gutted’ about split from wife Faryal Makhdoom and has not slept since their public Twitter feud
AMIR Khan says he is "gutted" about the breakdown of his marriage to Faryal Makhdoom and has been unable to sleep.
The boxer - who has been trading blows with Makhdoom after publicly accusing her of cheating on him last night - is in Dubai, where his brother Haroon flew out today to support him.
The 30-year-old said: "I don’t know what to say. I’m gutted.
“I went to see some people at the marina and I’ve been up all night.
"I couldn’t sleep. I need time to think. I just need to rest and to speak to some people."
He is reportedly staying at a £160-a-night hotel suite in the shadow of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
Amir Khan's wife Faryal Makhdoom has claimed the boxer had never mentioned getting a divorce before his explosive flurry of tweets last night accusing her of cheating on him.
In a lengthy statement she said she was "confused" by her husband's shocking tweets and was convinced his account had been hacked.
She shared it alongside a video of herself telling fans she had been "starving" but had "finally regrouped".
In the statement, Makhdoom said: "I am no cheat, that's not me and never will be.
"My account was genuinely hacked and I thought Amir's was too as he never mentioned a divorce to me and instead went to social media -- I was a bit confused.
"This is a private matter in my life that's blown out of proportion and it's not right for me as a woman nor my little girl.
"I'm not sure where Amir has gotten his information from and whether he was under the influence or what was going through his head when he did this -- But clearly as many of you may no I am no cheat that's not me and never will be. (Never ever been a story about me in the past, and never will be)
"From today onwards I will not talk about this matter as it's my marriage and a very touchy/sensitive matter to me.
"You guys can think what you like and we had a lovely time in Dubai for my birthday, I truly believe in bad nazar (evil eye).
"Sometimes you do things out of anger not realizing the damage it will cause -- and that's clearly what's happened here."
The model also apologised to Anthony Joshua for "what's going on".
Makhdoom followed it with a cryptic video of herself telling her followers she had been "starving".
The 26-year-old, dressed down in a hoodie with unbrushed hair, said: "I've finally regrouped myself and realised my health is more important than anything.
"I am always ok because I have my trust in Allah and I'm a very strong believer.
"I remember telling you guys I was going through the toughest time of my life and the hardest year.
"Obviously with the fights, operation, drama, all that.
"It was just too much for everyone and especially for us as a couple.
"Anyway I hope you guys are all ok.
"Back to reality. I have so much work to do."
The couple's bitter feud has been playing out on social media since Khan accused his wife of cheating on him with fellow Brit boxer Anthony Joshua last night.
Bolton fighter Amir's little brother Haroon has flown to join him in Dubai, and Khan told fans he was there to "look after him" after the split.
Faryal posted another cryptic message on Twitter today amid claims she tried to make up with the boxer in a late-night call after their explosive split.
Makhdoom retweeted a passage from the Quran tonight which says: "And be moderate (or show no arrogance) in your walking, and lower your voice."
It comes after the pair's astonishing Twitter feud last night after Khan announced their break-up, claiming his wife of four years had cheated on him with heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua.
His family today exclusively told The Sun online how they're “hugely relieved” he ended it - and even predicted the boxing champion’s marriage breakdown just months ago.
The source claims Makhdoom came up with the idea that the pair should announce that their Twitter accounts have been hacked and tell the media as a "way out".
The source said: "Amir stood his ground and told her that it was over and that he had mentally decided to move on from her and that he was unable to take it anymore.
"He hung up on her and when she texted again with threatening messages, he released video message to put an end to it all."
Makhdoom's family also got in touch with Khan's family in Bolton to offer an olive branch as a symbol for the couple to reconcile, the sourced added.
Meanwhile, the boxer's dad and brother say they had nothing to do with the couple's public feud after Makhdoom accused his family of trying to destroy their marriage.
It comes after Makhdoom, 26, tweeted the word "patience" in Arabic this morning just a day after the boxing star confirmed their explosive split with a Snapchat video claiming "it's all true".
The model posted the cryptic message at 8.14am this morning - before she deleted it half an hour later.
The couple became embroiled in a row on Snapchat after Khan posted a video saying the pair were "moving on and walking away" from their "unhealthy" relationship.
Posting on Snapchat last night, Khan said: "Everything you saw on social media it is real.
"Me and Faryal have decided to move on and walk away. Nothing has been hacked.
"We have to move forward it’s not healthy for any of us.
"I wish her all the best in the future.
"Don’t want you guys to worry...What’s done is done, it’s all true."
Faryal then reignited the public feud with her own Snapchat rant where she threatened to share secrets about his personal life.
She fumed: "Shocked at anirs response (sic). Disgusted and clearly it's not him talking...I could blow up ur spot so bad but I'll be the bigger person.
"Actually trying to ruin someone's life like this is a low blow. Especially someone who's been there through every cheating scandal and stuck by your side when your own parents screwed your over. It's ok.
"I'll stay quiet. I won't let YOUR dirty laundry out in the public. Because I'm better than that.
"Clearly being influenced by someone. Hope it's not the family again.
"I've treated him bad? Lol...... why because I stopped him from harram? sacrificed my life and my daughters for someone who drinks alcohol everyday and calls himself a boxer.
"I'm done won't say no more. He can continue. Shame."
She had also earlier claimed their accounts had been "compromised" and apologised for the mix up.
Khan revealed on Twitter today he had split with Faryal and accused her of cheating with Anthony Joshua in a string of explosive posts where she branded him the "cheater".
Anthony made light of the bombshell claims posting a video of Shaggy's 90s hit It Wasn't Me to his Twitter account and sparking an explosion of hilarious memes.
He followed the video with a tweet reading: "Bantz aside, I hope you guys can resolve your situation or this is a hack as we have never even met! Plus I like my women BBW."
The social media spat started after a tweet was posted to the boxer's account reading: "So me and the wife Faryal have agreed to split. I'm currently in Dubai. Wish her all the best."
After wishing his wife all the best tweets went on to make sensational claims she had moved on with fellow boxer Anthony Joshua as their troubled marriage appeared to implode in public.
Joshua was tagged in a tweet that read: "Faryal moved on quick. Always mentioned to me how much she wanted to be with another guy, from all people another boxer.
"Lol moved up in the weight classes lol. Trust me I ain't the jealous type. No need to send me pictures of the men your talking to."
Tweets from Faryal's account hit back at the claims as she branded her husband a "cheater" and "bad role model, always around women and alcohol" .
The gloves were off as model Faryal, 26, blasted Bolton born Amir just minutes after tweets were posted from the boxer's account writing: "Accusing other boxers just because your boxing career is finished. Man up amir."
PULL NO PUNCHES Inside Amir Khan and Faryal Makhdoom’s VERY troubled relationship, including a jaw-dropping sex tape scandal and a bitter family feud
She continued: "After all these years. I've always defending a cheat, always stuck around for him, always had his back. And I'm called a gold digger?
"LOL! He's given me jack s*** -- I pay house bills and bills for my daughter myself! It's like I'm a single mother while he's out messing around.
"And he has the nerve to blast me like that? The amount of evidence I have on you. It can destroy you. But since I loved you at one point in my life. I'll just let it go.
"I'm not the one who's been in the papers every month with my pants down Cheater!"
Faryal continued to hit out at her husband over his rumoured infidelities before branding him a "#30yearoldbaby" after he tweeted "Mans like Joshua can have my left overs!".
She tweeted: "maybe your boxing career is finished because you're an adulterer.
"At the end of the day I can hold my head high knowing I've given this marriage my 100% while amir clearly hasn't. Bad company.
"Bad role model, always around women , alcohol and then he calls himself a Muslim and runs a charity.
"I'm sorry to all the fans & family hurt by this. But amir did not need to do stupid tweets accusing others when he's in the wrong.#guilty
"I think he just needs some attention because boxing hasn't been going well for him so he's just been acting up"
Amir's family were even dragged into the explosive feud after a tweet posted from the former world champion's account said: "Left my family and friends for this Faryal. I'm not hurt but another fighter. I'm making it public. You getting the divorce."
A tweet from Faryal's account hit back: "I'm sure you left your family because they robbed you? Not because of me. Stop making false things up."
It seems Amir's family have waded into the row with a family source telling : "Amir and Faryal have split up. It's over.
"There have been problems in the relationship for a long time and they were headed for a separation. It's the best outcome. She's a gold-digger."
Another Khan source added: "Faryal is evil.
"It was clear from very early on that Faryal is interested in Amir's money and fame and we told Amir so that she's a bad choice."
Just five days ago Faryal posted pictures of her and Amir cuddled up together in ice bar, just days after she shared an image of them celebrating her 26th birthday in Dubai.
It's understood she later flew back to the UK alone.
Last month The Sun had revealed the pair were planning to renew their wedding vows.
Their marriage has been plagued by allegations of his infidelity since their lavish New York ceremony in May 2013.
The boxer's wife has also had a series of public spats with his family - including explosive allegations of bullying made in December 2016 - that led to an estrangement from his parents.
In January this year the couple were rocked after a long-rumoured sex tape of the star was leaked online appearing on This Morning together to insist it was recorded before they had met.
Faryal married her sporting superstar husband after being introduced to Amir by a mutual friend.
The couple, who married in glamorous 1000-guest ceremony at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel, have a two-year old together called Lamisah, born in 2014.
But the marriage has been rocked by several claims of Amir cheating on his wife.
In 2015, reality show star Lateysha Grace claimed she was offered £2,000 by Amir for a foursome in Miami.
The Sun also revealed how he spent the night with former escort Christie Lee Hoyle while his wife was pregnant in 2013.
Around the same time he allegedly bombarded Clair Nuttall with lewd texts urging her to perform sex acts on him and begging for a threesome.
Faryal confronted Clair and French lingerie model Eglantine-Flore Aguilar over their alleged trysts.
Khan has been linked with a string of other women, including model Natalie Fox and Playboy star Carla Howe.
