Sue, 61, from Portsmouth, was later urgently readmitted to Queen Alexandra and had surgery to remove the toe.

But hours later doctors told her the infection was so bad she would need to have her right leg amputated below the knee.

Sue, who has diabetes, is taking action against Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust claiming there was a “huge oversight” in her care.

The Trust said: “We are unable to comment on any pending legal cases.”
