Jacob Rees-Mogg invites die-hard fan with a ‘Moggmentum’ tattoo to have tea with him in Parliament
ECCENTRIC Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg today pledged support for a young fan who has had the word “Moggmentum” tattooed on his chest.
The backbencher invited 24-year-old Conservative activist Ross Atkinson to have tea with him in Parliament after hearing about his extreme devotion.
He said he was “enormously flattered” when he heard about the tattoo – and warned his fan not to turn to the left or he would risk regretting his decision.
Mr Atkinson, from Doncaster, paid £50 to get the word “Moggmentum” tattooed on his pectoral muscle.
He got the inking as a tribute to his political idol Mr Rees-Mogg, who is known for his old-fashioned manners.
Today the MP said: “I’m enormously honoured and flattered, it’s a huge compliment.
“I just hope he doesn’t become a socialist when he gets older and might have to change it.
“It’s a great honour a young man should be so interested in politics, so keen about Conservative principles that he wants to wear it on himself.”
He also told Mr Atkinson he was welcome to join him for tea in the House of Commons in the autumn so the pair can discuss their mutual love of Tory politics.
The young activist said earlier this week: “I love Jacob because he stands for a lot the same things as me philosophically, but he also has the integrity to not try and change his opinions to meet public opinion.”
Mr Rees-Mogg, the MP for North East Somerset, has recently found social media fame thanks to his unique Instagram and Twitter accounts.
He and his wife recently had their sixth child, a boy whom they named Sixtus.
Fans have started the Moggmentum movement in a bid to ensure their idol can take over from Theresa May as Prime Minister.
But he today again insisted he stands behind the current PM and said he would have no chance of entering Number 10.
