Retired farm worker finally buys his first home — at the ripe old age of 99
Great-grandfather who spent his entire life in tenant cottages has bought a suite in a retirement complex
RETIRED farm worker Geoffrey Green has finally bought his first home — at 99.
He spent his life as a tenant in cottages.
Geoffrey retired at 80 and has now decided to buy a suite in a retirement village.
The great-grandfather says he has already settled in to his new pad.
He said: “I’d never bought a house before because I’d always lived on the farm.
“I like it very much here but I do sometimes go back to the farm.”
He now lives in Witney, six miles from Manor Farm in Combe, Oxfordshire, where he was born.
He worked on the Blenheim Estate in nearby Woodstock.
His father and grandfather were farmers, and he is proud his son and grandson are keeping up the Blenheim tradition.
Geoffrey said: “I’ve had a wonderful life and I worked hard.
“Farming has changed a lot over the years with the big difference being mechanisation. Horses used to provide the power.”
