Lord Sugar calls for Jeremy Corbyn to RESIGN after branding him a ‘cheat’ over dramatic student debt U-turn
Two Labour shadow ministers boasted about the policy despite Corbyn backtracking and claiming he did 'not make a commitment'
FORMER Labour peer Alan Sugar has called on “cheat” Jeremy Corbyn to resign – accusing the opposition leader of making “false promises” on scrapping student debt.
Pressure on Jezza is intensifying after it emerged that two shadow ministers had boasted about the plans to wipe £100billion worth of debt.
During the general election, Corbyn told the NME that he would “deal” with student debt but has since backtracked telling the BBC’s Andrew Marr that he did “not make a commitment we would write it off”.
But Lord Sugar appears to have had enough of Corbyn’s “magic money tree” pledges and is calling for the Labour leader to quit, claiming he lied to young people during the snap election.
Billionaire Apprentice host Lord Sugar tweeted: “@jeremycorbyn it’s clear you alluded to students refunds to get votes from young impressionable people. You are a cheat and should resign.”
Explosive footage posted on the Guido Fawkes website shows shadow justice minister Imran Hussain praising the policy as “fantastic news” while visiting a school.
In the clip, he said: “Just this morning Jeremy Corbyn has announced that the tuition fees will be abolished straight away from September if there’s a Labour government.
“And that we will bring back immediately EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) and also that every existing student will have all their debt wiped off.
“That’s fantastic news, isn’t it guys?”
Labour’s shadow health minister Sharon Hodgson also tweeted about the policy in the last days of the election – in which Labour managed to hobble Theresa May’s government.
She wrote: “Jeremy Corbyn: Labour could write off historic student debts (for) al those in early 20s with student debt #voteLabour.”
Tory education minister Nick Gibb said the Labour leader should apologise for lying to young voters.
He said: “Day by day Labour’s top team are being found out for their betrayal over student debt. Their irresponsible offers to students are unravelling before our eyes.”
Gibb also branded Labour’s election pledges “pure fantasy.”
