A TWO-year-old boy died when he was left in a boiling car overnight as temperatures soared to 32C.

Police found the tot unconscious after being called to the vehicle shortly before 2pm last Friday.

“I have a 7-month-old son and I don’t know how you forget a child in the car. I just can’t fathom it.”

Temperatures reached as high as 32C on Friday.

The front garden of a nearby home was strewn with children's toys, witnesses said.

Friends have since identified the youngster as the grandson of the town's mayor Jerry Kirkman.

A picture of Kirkman holding a young child has since emerged - although it is not clear if it is the victim.

Police have not confirmed any arrests over the death.
